FBK Games is one of the top athletics meetings in the world, held annually in Hengelo. The event attracts elite athletes from across the globe, but the way visitors accessed scheduling and start list information hadn’t kept up. PDFs on a website, static and hard to navigate on a phone in a crowded stadium. TRIMM was brought in to change that, and I built the solution from design through to deployment-ready code in three weeks, with the event itself as the hard deadline.

Approach

The core challenge wasn’t just presenting data, it was aggregating it from multiple sources and making it feel seamless. Start lists and scheduling lived in Magnolia CMS, Athlete data came from a third-party World Athletics API. These two data streams had to be pulled together, normalised, and served to the app in a way that was fast and consistent.

The app itself was built in Nuxt with Nuxt UI, designed to feel native rather than like a browser tab. Push notifications were implemented via the Web Push API with VAPID keys, so visitors could opt in and receive a notification five minutes before any event on their personal schedule was about to start.

02

Solution

The finished app gives visitors a live, interactive view of the day: full event schedule, per-event start lists with athlete profiles and push notifications timed to the event schedule. Content editors at FBK Games manage everything through Magnolia and those updates flow through to the app without a redeployment.

03

Outcome

The app shipped ahead of the event and received strong enthusiasm from both the client and internally at TRIMM. The real test will come on event day where thousands of visitors on-site and watching live on television, all potentially using it in real time.
